It seems to go on longer in the second movie. The sword fighting at the end of both movies is exhilarating and superbly choreographed. But a third major character Rupert (Douglas Fairbanks, Jr/James Mason) sc hemes to overthrow both of them and take their woman (Madeleine Carroll/Deborah Kerr). His generals, however, seize the opportunity and substitute the cousin temporarily as king. The king, who is immature and drinks too much, is slipped a mickey by his brother Michael (Raymond Massey/Robert Douglas). But there are plots to prevent the coronation-involving kidnapping the future king. Political forces within the realm are such that, in order for the king to retain the crown, his coronation must proceed. One is visiting Ruritania from England at the time of the coronation of the other. The Prisoner of Zenda (1894), by Anthony Hope, is an adventure novel in which the King of Ruritania is drugged on the eve of his coronation and thus is unable to attend the ceremony. The story revolves around look-alike men (not twins).
